Biography

Xiaolu Li, is a young Cellist having rich musical sensitivity, charisma and great abilities to perceive the essence of the music.

Xiaolu was born in China and lives in Germany, where she is currently pursuing her “Solistenexamen” under Prof. László Fenyö at the University of Music Karlsruhe, and her “Orchestersolist” in Mannheim. She has received her Cello solo master’s degree from the Hannover University of Music, Theatre and Media, second master’s chamber music degree from the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts with Professor Jonathan Aner. Xiaolu also holds an Artist degree from the ESMUC Barcelona and a bachelor’s degree from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music.

 

She was taught and educated by cellist Prof. Tilmann Wick, Prof. Christoforo Pestalozzi, Prof. Istvan Vardai and Prof. Cao Min, among others. During her studies in Europe, Xiaolu participated in various music festivals and master classes, including Prades Casals Pablo Music Festival, Biel Music Festival, Casalmaggiore Music Festival and the Ruetesheim Cello Academy. Moreover, during that time she received lessons from Arto Noras, Leonid Gorokhov, Claudio Bohorquez, Bernhard Gmelin, Emil Covner, Niklas Schmidt, Wen-Sinn Yang, Peter Wispelwey and Martti Rousi.

 

As a solist Xiaolu won the Chinese National Cello Competition. She played Saint-Saëns Cello Concert with the Swiss Bill Symphony Orchestra. She opened the Shanghai Spring International Music Festival with the Tchaikovsky Rococo Theme Variations together with the Shanghai Symphony Chamber Orchestra. Additionally, she gives recitals in Germany and China.

 

As a chamber musician, Xiaolu has won the international chamber music competition in Shanghai with her string quartet. She is the cellist in the X'cret Piano Trio. They give actively concerts in China and Germany.

 

Xiaolu Li was also invited to the Hong Kong International Chamber Music Festival, the British Edinburgh Chamber Music Festival, the German “Musikalischer Sommer in Ostfriesland” Music Festival, the Austrian European Arts Festival, the classical music festival in Hannover as well as to various German Chinese cultural exchange programs. Moreover, she is invited to give master classes at "Musikalischer Sommer in Ostfriesland" in Germany.

Lastly, Xiaolu has collaborated with many excellent musicians such as the composers Tan Dun, Fuzai Jin, Mayako Kubo, the violinist Philippe Graffin, Cho-Liang Lin, Salvatore Quranta and the pianist Gerrit Zitterbart, Jonathan Aner, Iwan König and many more.

Xiaolu also love to teach, she has set herself the goal of being able to pass on the beauty and her own joy in music to the pupils in order to create a pleasant and motivating learning atmosphere. She was invited to gave masterclass on 2019 at Musikalische Sommer Ostfriesland. In addition, she is the founder and the Artistic Director of a German Chinese Culture exchange program "Rhein International Music Festival & Academy".

Xiaolu is currently living in Frankfurt.
